Google Photos Takeout Organizer

Chrome extension — extract Takeout zips, merge metadata into photos, and organize everything locally in your browser.

Add to Chrome or Download zip

Install from the Chrome Web Store (recommended), or download the zip and load unpacked: in Chrome open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked and select the extracted folder. GitHub releases.

Safe & local

This extension runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your computer. It uses the File System Access API only when you choose folders — no cloud upload, no telemetry. You can trust the publisher: Ronen Kopito (LinkedIn).

How to use

  1. Get the extension — Click “Get the extension” above and download the latest release from GitHub (or clone the repo).
  2. Load in Chrome — Open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and select the Gphoto_organiser_JS folder.
  3. Open the popup — Click the extension icon in the toolbar to open the organizer popup.
  4. Select folders — Choose your input folder (where your Takeout zips or extracted files are) and an output folder (where you want the organized result).
  5. Scan or Apply — Use Scan for a dry run (no writes), or Apply to extract zips into a Lake, merge metadata into images, and write results to output/Lake/, output/Processed/, plus report.json and file_map.json.
